I’m always finding great vinyl albums in the clearance section at our local Target, and a few months ago, Target had the Sing 2 soundtrack for only $8. This was right before Christmas, and it turns out that Santa thought it was a great stocking stuffer for my 9-year-old daughter. Her first vinyl album!
Her excitement was lost quickly in the chaos of Christmas, but she really did like the gift. And we’ve listened to it several times since. She always asks me to play it whenever I put a record on.
The Sing Movies
If you haven’t seen the Sing movies, you can probably guess what the focus is. It’s all about the joys of music. And not just the newest pop music but popular classics from artists like U2 and Prince.
The first movie is about Buster Moon, an owner of a failing theater who puts on a singing competition in a last-ditch effort to save his business. There’s lots of turmoil along the way, but the competition works out, the people love it, and the theatre is saved.
The second movie takes place sometime after the first. At this point, the theatre has been thriving for a while. Buster is alerted to a talent scout in the audience during a show. The scout leaves unimpressed, but Buster and his crew decide to woo her over to try to take their show to Vegas (or whatever the equivalent of Vegas is in the Sing world).
Neither of the storylines in these movies is particularly great, but they’re not terrible, either. And these moves are fun for kids and full of great songs for all ages. Even after seeing them a million times, I like both movies, so they can’t be that bad!
What You Get in the Vinyl Album
The cover features a screen from the movie where the entire crew is on stage facing the crowd. It’s the perfect shot for an album cover. It does a great job of portraying the movie’s finale and how amazing their show was.
This is a double vinyl set, so the cardboard jacket opens up to reveal many more essential story scenes. It’s a lot of fun, and it reminds you of all of the fun parts of the movie, like Johnny’s struggles with his dance routine, Meena’s crush on the ice cream vendor, and Miss Crawly destroying her hundred-thousand-dollar sports car as she escaped Clay Calloway’s paintball attack. Just seeing the screenshots makes you want to watch the movie again.
And then, on the back, you have another screen grab of Meena in her beautiful white gown, along with the names of the tracks on each record.
Inside one of the sleeves is a single-page insert that credits the people who worked on each song.
And at the end of the insert is a letter from the director, Garth Jennings, with a message of thanks to the people who made the movie possible. It’s almost like a speech someone would give at an award ceremony. It’s a nice heartfelt message that offers more insight into how the music made the movie.
The records themselves are made of purple vinyl. They’re somewhat transparent and feature darker purple streaks, giving it a sort of marbleized look.
My daughter loves the way these records look.
The Tracks In Sing 2
There are many great songs here from all genres and decades.

A Great Buy for Fans of the Movie
So there you have it! That’s the Sing 2 soundtrack on vinyl. If you’re a fan of the movie, it’s definitely worth picking up. It’s so much fun to listen to while playing the scenes out in your head.
In fact, we listened to this album today so I could prepare for this review, and with each song, my daughter kept talking about the scenes from the movie where the song played. She loved it! To her, it was like watching the movie. So if you’re looking for a way to get the kids away from screens, try this one out, whether on vinyl, CD, or a streaming service.
